| Susana before the birth (36 weeks) |

Susana exhibited gestational diabetes (which usually clears up after birth). But babies of such mothers tend to get too much glucose, and thus grow a little too big. Doctors thus like to induce the birth a week or two early. This happened in Susana's case. She was induced at week 38 day 4.
So in the hospital, they pumped in Oxytocin until her labour started. During the day, her contractions got steadily stronger. At around 4pm, they gave her the epidural injection (an anestetic injection into the spine).
Finally at around 7pm she was judged ready for birth, and was taken to a birthing room. Here, after only 3 or 4 pushes, David popped out, in all his white goo and blood. No instruments were needed. His head was distended, reminding Mick of Giger's Alien (see below).
While one mid-wife sewed Susana back up, Mick looked after David. At first, he thought this world a little strange, after so long floating around inside his mother. But whenever he started to cry, Mick would sing (however badly), and the child would calm down to listen. Truely a magical time.
Eventually Susana was prepared, and they took Susana and Baby away to a recovery room. Later Mick, her mother and sister could rejoin them in Susana's hospital room.
